Starting from: Why NanoClaw over OpenClaw (security concerns)
Learn how to set up NanoClaw, a secure 4,000-line code alternative to OpenClaw, with Discord integration. This tutorial walks through the entire setup process and demonstrates how to connect NanoClaw to your local files for automated tasks.
Go to discord.com/developers/applications and create a new application
This is required to generate the bot token for NanoClaw integration
Run 'clawed' in terminal to install NanoClaw
This uses custom/commands and will run the setup process
Choose authentication method (Anthropic API key recommended for safety)
API key is safer than using Claude subscription which may get banned
In Discord developer portal, go to Bot tab and generate a new token
Enable message content intent and server members intent permissions
Use OAuth2 URL generator to set bot permissions (send messages, read history, view channels)
Copy the generated URL and invite the bot to your server
Copy the channel ID from Discord URL and paste it into NanoClaw setup
Create a private channel for NanoClaw to communicate in
Drag and drop specific folders to grant NanoClaw access
Only grant access to necessary folders, not your entire computer
