How to replace the safety guard on a DeWalt Flexvolt saw using self-tapping screws.
Learn how to replace a broken safety guard and thumb lever on a DeWalt 54V Flexvolt miter saw (DCS 573). Includes tips on reusing parts and properly seating the coil spring.
Do not throw away the broken guard immediately; reuse the special screw and other small bits to save on replacement costs.
Screw the new thumb lever (plastic or metal) onto the guard using the self-tapping screw.
Take off the blade and the guard stop/brake to allow the guard to be removed from the machine.
Hook the coil spring into the hole on the new guard and press it into place.
If the guard isn't seating fully, use a screwdriver to poke the spring underneath to clear the path.
Reinstall the circlip, the guard stop, and the blade. Ensure the blade is centered on the flange before tightening.
