Introduction to using the Point Color tool in Adobe Camera Raw
Learn to use the Point Color tool in Adobe Camera Raw to target and transform specific colors in your images with total precision. This tutorial shows you how to create non-destructive edits using Smart Objects and Camera Raw filters for flexible, stunning color adjustments.
Convert your background layer to a Smart Object by going to Layer > Smart Objects > Convert to Smart Object
This allows you to make non-destructive edits that can be modified later
Go to Filter > Camera Raw Filter to access the Point Color tool
Camera Raw is Lightroom built into Photoshop, offering powerful color adjustment tools
Open the Color Mixer panel and select Point Color
This tool allows you to target specific colors in your image for precise adjustments
Use the eyedropper tool to click on a color in your image, then adjust hue, saturation, luminance, variance, and range sliders
Start with one color (like orange) and use the sliders to transform it - bring saturation up and luminance up for better results
Click the '+' button to add new sample points and select different colors in your image
Work through each major color in your image (green, sky, yellow) using the same adjustment sliders
Use the Range slider and its sub-sliders (hue range, saturation range, luminance range) to control how much of each color is affected
This advanced feature lets you target specific tonal ranges within each color for more precise control
Click OK to apply your Camera Raw adjustments and return to Photoshop
Your edits are now saved as a Smart Filter, allowing you to double-click and re-edit anytime
